Estimate your UK private medical insurance premium by age, region, excess and cover level
Private health insurance cost estimator
An indicative monthly premium based on the variables insurers actually rate on: age, region, excess, hospital list and outpatient level. No personal details required, no quote saved.
What the estimator uses
- Age band — the strongest single driver of PMI pricing.
- Region and postcode loading, especially central London hospital access.
- Excess level, from nil upward.
- Outpatient structure: full, capped or none.
- Whether therapies, mental health and dental modules are included.
What it cannot tell you
It cannot underwrite you. Any declared medical history, a restricted hospital list, employer scheme eligibility or insurer appetite can move the real figure meaningfully in either direction. Treat the output as a planning number and get a regulated quote before budgeting on it.
Typical premium drivers, ranked
| Factor | Direction | Rough impact |
|---|---|---|
| Age | Rises steeply after 50 | Largest |
| Hospital list | Central London costs most | Large |
| Excess | Higher excess, lower premium | Large |
| Outpatient level | Full cover costs most | Moderate to large |
| Six-week NHS option | Cuts premium sharply | Large, with a trade-off |
| Therapies / mental health | Adds modestly | Small |
